Elche has top class sports facilities for playing football and the related disciplines of 5 and 7 a-side football, which also have many followers.

Just 15 minutes walk from the city centre, the Juan Ángel Romero Ciudad Deportiva has seven Astroturf pitches, one grass pitch and three 5 a-side football pitches, one of them indoor, in the Esperanza Lag Pavilion. Just across the road, there are also pitches at the Altabix Sports Centre (previously Kelme C. F.) as well as at the sports centres in Carrús, El Toscar and in most of the surrounding small towns.

Elche Football club, founded in 1923, is the local team. The location for its matches, the Martínez Valero Stadium, holds a capacity crowd of 36,017.
