TORRE DE LA BASÍLICA DE SANTA MARIA
The lookout point of the Bell Tower of the Santa María Basilica of Elche is reached by 170 steps, with three resting places on the way up to the highest point. Each of these places corresponds to the rooms, where, until the 1930s of the last century, the bell ringer and his family lived.
Currently, in the first and second rooms, there are two photographic exhibitions about the main façade of the Basilica and its stained glass windows, as well as explanatory panels about the origins of the Mystery Play of Elche.
In the third room are the church bells, as well as several explanatory panels about the Nit de L’Albà and Elche´s two World Heritage Sites, the Palm Grove and the Mystery Play respectively.
Outside, at the top of the tower, you may take in a panoramic view of the city and appreciate the full extent of the Historic Palm Grove of Elche, World Heritage Site.
