CENTRO DE VISITANTES

OUT OF ORDER

Nestled in the middle of the Municipal Park, this building of Oriental style was built for the County Exhibition of Industry, Crafts and Agriculture of 1946. Its silhouette is very striking since domes are employed as the only structural element. These rounded shapes and its outer whiteness have earned it the nickname “el huevo” or the egg.

It was used to house the Archaeological Museum until this was transfered to the Palace of Altamira in 1984 and in 1965 it had the honour of hosting the bust of the Lady of Elche for two weeks on her first return visit to her place of origin. It subsequently served as the Museum of the White Palm and as an exhibition hall.

Since 2003 has been a Visitor Centre. Through touch screens and an audiovisual show, a comprehensive presentation of the city is offered.
