The Esperanza Lag Pavilion, in the Ciudad Deportiva (Sports City), has an Olympic-sized swimming pool (50 metres), whilst the sports centres in Carrús, to the north of the city, and El Pla, to the south, both have half Olympic-sized swimming pools (25 metres). All three are indoor, heated pools.

Two clubs which compete in all the competition categories, both train at the Ciudad Deportiva: the Elche Swimming Club and the swimming section of the Club de Tennis Elche. They also organise various tournaments throughout the competitive season.

Open water swimming is one of the disciplines which has most increased in popularity in recent years. Competitions are open to both professionals and amateur sportsmen and women, and they bring together thousands of participants, as is demonstrated by the popularity of the open water crossing competitions of Arenales-Santa Pola, Tabarca-Santa Pola and La Marina-El Pinet.
